With escalating consumerism, unprecedented awareness and a youth-heavy consumer base, India is proverbial ‘Promised Land’ for global brands and retailers. The size of the domestic retail sector is pegged at $292 billion. Mc Kinsey sees this around $350 billion by 2010, with organized sector accounting for 10-15%. Organized retailing is expected to notch up a 20% annual growth rate by the end of the decade, against 8.5% at present which accounts for 10% of the GDP. Consisting of over 15 million outlets, the sector is estimated to provide employment to over 18 million people, the largest employment after agriculture. So, the professionals with expertise in retail are going to be need of the hour. The centre for Retail was set up at 2002. It as an initiative to educate professionals and scholars to play a leading role in the Retail growth in India. It strives to create new generation of smart Retail professionals of International caliber. Besides the academic excellence, the centre has evolved into first rate repository of composite knowledge on Retail Management. In fact, its vast resource bank has become a ready reference for a sizeable section of the Indian Retail industry. The institute has formed strategic alliances with a number of Retail companies in India to provide support in form of visiting faculty, guest lectures, seminars and Live project work. Institute has tied up with Indian as well as International Retail institutes involved in teaching and consultancy to provide the access to best resources available in Retailing and Merchandising.

Imparting the Rudiments


With the resource of scholarly faculty team, the best of teaching techniques are used to impart the knowledge to students. The pedagogy empahsises more on the practical impartation of the facts and figures in comparison to the theoretical aspects. The various methods are used to give the proper data to students so that the study material is not crammed but it is actually applied by them.
