You must be wondering that what I mean by Astrology Mall. But let me correct you that you are thinking on the right line. Yes it’s a mall specialized in astrology. Soon Bangalore will have supermarkets that will house astrologers, numerologists, palmists, tarot-card readers, horoscope specialists - all under one roof. It is first of its kind in the country or perhaps world. So, if you want to know your future, you just need to step in this super market and know all predictions. Bangalore gonna have 10 such outlets called ‘Star & Planet’ and they will be carrying astro-related materials like Rudraksha beads, gems and stones, yantras, puja materials and books relating to astrology.
“It is not just about fortune telling. If an astrologer suggests a puja, the supermarket will arrange it for you. The concept is like a multispeciality hospital where all specialists are available under one roof”, says promoter Ramesh Tulsian.
One of the toughest challenges in success of a format like this is the authenticity and precision level of the fortune tellers which it will be housing. In order to deal with it, promoters have decided that they will select them based on a written test and an interview. They will have to face an expert panel in order to set up shop in supermarket.
So, with this New Service Development (NSD), we have a scope of another academic course i.e. Future and Fortune Management

We Indians have a super habit of jumping the GUN each time. Looks to me as another failure lurking around. We never learn from experience!! Basically what i feel, that there is too much at stake for all these fellas. These are great news, make big headlines and take up full coverage. Equally they die their own sweet death. People may remember the mall, but soon the focus shifts over. Will the average Indian ever leave their traditional priest at home? The news channels these days have special coverage shows on future telling. Places like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai have people either with lots of money or too little time, and lo! they have become experimental hubs. Localised retail is never a good idea nor a sound business proposal.I think another star here gets fallen!

I agree with you sudip that we wont leave our traditional priest at home. But this concept is much more than just fortune telling and horoscope. It will be a one stop for all your Puja Samagris and stuff. In city like b’lore it is actually tough to gather such materials from one place if u want o conduct a puja ceremony. Either you need to visit 10 places or else you need travel 10 kms in tremendous traffic. I hope they have done strong research for its economic viability. Anyways i am sure that we will have enugh to learn whether the format fails or succeeds ;), Lets wait and watch dude, another case study in making !!

We know how much you love case studies, rajeev :D. But the unorganized methodologies adopted by the organized retailers have started showing up there effects! and I hope you are getting to feel the heat as well :p! its a high time for retailers to go in for a reality check now.
The concept of this mall is good! but as Sudip has already pointed out! its going to be short lived!

In India Religion sells. As does Cricket and Bolywood. This sounds like a concept that is just waiting to take off. Modern retail has not yet exploited the power of religion in India

True Retailpedia, the comparison with cricket and bollywood is quiet apt, but then religious minds have always been against modernisation, will they adapt to it?

Hi Arun,
The first branch was supposed to be opened in J.P. Nagar, Bangalore in September 2008. And they had plans to open several other branches in Marathahalli, H S R Layout, Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, R T Nagar, H S B R Layout, Kasturinagar, Sarjapur and Electronic City in Bangalore. I have no idea of their current status. Even my guru i.e. Google have no idea as of now.
If you are a localite of Bangalore, then you can check it in J.P. Nagar.
Regards,
Rajeev
