Although this post strays away from the focus of this blog, but I could not resist the temptation of posting this information. For this is something I had always anticipated, and now its taking a real shape. Google, in a few hours from now, is slated to launch a all new web browser, written completely from the scratch, with a brand new java support, faster and better - Google Chrome!
It was with the emergence of websites like Facebook, MySpace and then gMail which made me realise that, Web is not all about serving information anymore! and its fast turning into the concept of “Service as a application”, Some blogs has speculated about Web Browsers to be replacing OS’s in the future, and I think Google Chrome is just a step closer to this speculation. I will not deviate much from the core of this blog, Here are a few links for catching up with the heat!

What I think is WEB 2.0 requires this type of browser which is capable of multithreading of tabs, memory allocation to all tabs separately, more stability and better handling of java classes and handling of plug-ins and gears and better pop up management and security oh my god the list is long, chrome is really a basket of awesome features. But what I think this won’t lead into a war as this is a open source app. So other browsers like Firefox, opera, safari and our IE will learn from this and they will include all these features in their next releases, this will take time but is a need of time so they have to do it, and as IE is coming up with IE 8 in their next OS “Windows 7” most probably we can see all this above mentioned applications in that too (till date the beta versions of IE 8 have nothing new
). Finally what I can say is this is a good way of Google to welcome “Web 2.0” and “Cloud”.

Prateek, Well it actually is a war out there! its the war between open source software’s like firefox, chrome and open ended software’s like IE. Google is one of the biggest fund raisers for Mozilla foundation, and a firm beliver of open source technology, and that’s why Mozilla is welcoming the challenge from google, because this would lead to more innovation! When it comes to open source everyone is a winner, but then there are some “Softwares” who have gotten lazy lately (READ IE) so its a war to wake them up! and to innovate! People have expectations from IE 8, Google has just raised the bar of expectations!

Well the question here is “Do we really need another browser?”
I mean no dis-respect to google, i know they’ll bring new innovative features and faster speed and various other features, But aren’t users already tired of having more options that they can handle.
We have Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s FIREFOX, who among them dominate the web-browser market to the tune of 90+%.
Then there is Apple - SAFARI, Opera, Netscape 2.0 and many more.
I think rather than having a better technological advantage, google built to to counter Microsoft. Its an open war.

Hi Anurag,
We my question would be “Why Not”, Google has already stated the reason behind this release! When browsers were invented, Web 2.0 didn’t existed! and now, when the geography of the web is changing, we need browsers which can handle the pressure, and can provide us more flexibility, and Chrome is not different from firefox, and safari, as its already based safari’s webkit and google is one of the major contributors for the mozzila foundation, so being an open source browser, we can see a lot of changes being implemented in these browsers as well, therefore more advantage for the consumer. A user can always download a browser he/she likes. Its always good to have a choice, and with the competition heating up its the user who is at the win-win situation.
